Finally a new post about PEACHES!!!

Raulon works at a youth detention center and they get most of their food
from the local food pantry. Well a couple weeks ago they went to the food pantry
and they had all these peaches they wanted to get rid of before they went bad
so Raulon was able to bring home a couple cases of them!
They were delicious
and we gave some to my parents but it was still too much to eat all by ourselves!
We decided we'd have to can some and this is how it went! :)

First we boiled the peaches for a minutes to make it easier to get the peel off.

This is the bowl of them after we were done boiling them.

Ha ha, this is me trying to take a picture of myself peeling the skins from the peaches.

Next we cute them into quarters, pulled out the pit, and put them in jars.

We added 1/3 cup of sugar and filled them to the neck with water.

Once the water starts boiling you have to leave them in 20 minutes!

We did 8 jars and five of the eight actually sealed, which we figure

for our first time was pretty good :) lol.

Now we'll just have to make sure and eat those other three really fast! :)

Keep in mind that this whole time, I was taking these pictures specifically so

I could blog about it because everyone keeps asking when I'm going to post a new one.

So here it is guys!!!

I think 5 of 8 jars sealed is great for a first time canning! I've only ever done jam because everything else is too scary - I figure I'll mess it up. Thanks for the post showing me that it's not too hard after all, just a lot of work!

Well it's about time silly girl!! I thought we were going to have to have a funeral for your blog. "Here lies Naomi's Blog...may it rest in peace, it was such a good idea to start out with but oh well" So glad we don't have to do that...yet ;) Wow you and Raulon are so domestic :) I'm in awe of your peach canning skills :) Glad to have you back! :)
